Freedom 8K Race/Walk - FAQ
Q: What is the date for the 2012 Freedom 8k Series?
A: The Second Annual Freedom 8k Series – Green Cove Springs will be held on May 28, 2011 (Memorial Day).
Q: How much does it cost to register?
A: Events fees are as follows:
Freedom 8k Series – Green Cove Springs
- $25.00 thru' March 31, 2012
- $30.00 thru' April 30, 2012
- $35.00 thru' May 24, 2012
- $40.00 thru' May 25 - 27, 2012 (Race Weekend)
- $45.00 May 28th, 2012 (Race Day Registration)
- $5.00 Kid’s Warrior Trot - Freedom Mile (for children 12 & under)

There WILL be Race Day registration at the Starting Line, Clay County Administration Building parking lot in Green Cove Springs, Florida.

Q: What does this entry fee cover?
A: The entry fee covers all the following:
- Race Registration
- Goody Bag (Back Pack)
- Commemorative short sleeve Technical Shirt (Freedom 8k Race/Walk only)
- Finisher Medallion
- Personalized Bib (if registered on or before April 30, 2012) (Freedom 8k Race/Walk only)
- Post-Race Food and Refreshments
Q: What time does the race start?
A: Event timings are as follows:
- The Freedom 8k Race Wheel Chair Division will commence at 7:55 am EST.
- The Freedom 8k Race will begin at 8:00 am EST.
- The Freedom 8k Race Stroller Division will commence at 8:02 am EST.
- The Freedom Mile will begin at 10:00 am EST.
Q: What are the expected high/low temperatures on May 28th?
A: Normal conditions for around this time of the year are:
- Normal High: 87 F (30 C)
- Normal Low: 75 F (24 C)
A: You must maintain a 20 min/mile pace in order to finish the race. The roads will open to traffic as soon as the last person passes mile marker ONE, which will make it unsafe for participants moving under a 20 min/mile pace to finish the race.
Q: How should I line-up at the start line?
A: We will have Wheel Chair Division first, followed by Elite runners, Open Racer/Walkers, and last, the Stroller Division.

Q: How do I register?
A: You can click here to register online or follow the Register Link on the main menu.
Q: Will I be able to register the day of the race?
A: Yes. Day of race registration IS available. Race Day registration is at the Starting Line, Clay County Administration Building parking lot in Green Cove Springs, Florida.

Q: I am not able to make it to Race Packet Pick-up. What do I do?
A: You may have another person (family member or friend) pick up your race packet for you. The person picking up your race packet will need the following:
- His or her photo I.D. (only forms of I.D. accepted are Driver License or Military I.D.)
- Letter signed by you authorizing the pick-up of your Race Packet. Name the designated person on the letter must match photo I.D.
He or she will need to present these materials to a race official and will be required to show ID in order to verify the identity of the person picking up the race packet.
Q: Can I defer my entry to next year?
A: No. Entry deferments are not permitted.
Q: How long is the course open?
A: The course is open for two hours. Registrants must be capable of completing the full distance, start line to finish line, within the event time requirement of two hours (or approx. 20 minutes/mile). Participants running slower than 20 minutes/mile will not be guaranteed Aid Station or Medical support once the 2:00 time limit has been reached. Participants still out on the race course will be asked to move onto the sidewalk as the streets will be re-opened to traffic.
Q: If I am injured and/or cannot run the event (friend’s wedding, work obligation, etc.) can I get a refund, donate my entry or transfer my entry to someone else?
A: No. Sale and/or transfer of race entry/bib is strictly prohibited and will result in the disqualification and/or banning of any individuals involved from future events. All entry fees are non-refundable, and may not be deferred toward a future event.
Q: Can I give/sell my number to another person?
A: No. Entries and race numbers are non-transferable from one person to another.
Q: What is the latest, by which one can register & have the Bib personalized?
A: One has to be registered on or before April 30, 2012 to get the bib personalized.
Q: Can I exchange my shirt for a smaller/larger size at the Expo?
A: Yes. The ONLY opportunity to exchange shirts will be on Race Day between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.
Q: I cannot run the race. Will you mail my Participant Packet, Participant Bag and T-shirt to me?
A: No. We are unable to mail out Participant Packets or Bags if they are not picked up. No exceptions.
Q: If I offer to pay postage for my Participant T-shirt, will you mail it to me?
A: Yes. If you registered and are unable to participate in the race, we will be happy to mail just your participant T-shirt to you, there is a $12 cost to do so (please include in your cancellation notice your name, mailing address, sex, age, phone number, and T-shirt size). Make check payable to "Freedom Marathon, Inc." and mail to the following address:

A: Absolutely! In addition to our volunteer program, we encourage everyone across Green Cove Springs and surrounding areas to support the cause and cheer on our runners on race day.
